One more post before another Tylenol 3!
This painting is based on another photograph from the Irish Photographer Joseph Hogan (used for reference with permission). I have previously used his photography for the painting ‘Winter Barn’ (posted below). It is the second painting of it, as the first crashed and burned at the last minute when applying the wash of burnt umber for the shadow.
Like most watercolours, it had to be thoroughly thought out before beginning. It was deceptively difficult even though it looks rather a simple and straightforward subject.

It is a painting with a Father’s Day theme, now hanging in The Old Courthouse Gallery here in Kamloops, British Columbia.

There is such a soft and wonderful feeling here. The reflection of the window brings it all together so wonderfully with your masterful use of light and shadow. I love this painting. It makes me feel at home.

This reminds me of a Vermeer without a figure in it. Gracefully stark and intriguing…the light ‘shaped’ like the window is perfect!

Try safeway (forgot the name), they usually have a small section for muscle ache pain…check if they have it…sometimes, they include asian meds

oh thank you again! The last photo was taken in poor light and I overworked it when processing. It’s really a leather chair and looks like one when viewing the painting itself. I am so pleased you took the time to tell me it reminds you of your own memories!

Lance, this is wonderful! I love seeing the progression of a work and you did not disappoint! The final painting is lovely and evocative – I love the play of light – but I must say that this reminds me of my grandmother’s scratchy velvet furniture (seems like an oxymoron – maybe it wasn’t velvet!) in which i sat on many visits. I didn’t mind the scratchiness – but your image evoked a multi-layered memory of color, feel, and smell that was priceless. Darn effective for artwork filtered through the web – Bravo!

Try an Ibuprofin, instead of Tylenol! Its a muscle relaxant, as well as a pain killer. So sorry about your back. Nothing is worse for an artist!
Your water color is lovely, and I’ll make a point of going to see it at the Courthouse.

You did a wonderful job on this painting, Lance. I love the warped shadow of the window pane on the wall … I think that is what gives the painting it’s simple character. And of course, since I’ve never been able to master watercolors, I stand in even more awe of your painting. Great share. 🙂

PS…Try salompas patch..it helped me a lot with my back ache..You can get it in Asian specialty stores..
