Local Cliffs, Finished Piece
April 25, 2012
D Day for me is May 1st. That is when Lynda Jones and I are teaming up to be The Featured Artists at The Old Courthouse Gallery here in Kamloops. Lynda is a rare and amazing potter who specializes in highly burnished smoke-fired pieces and counts among her collectors the former U. S. President Clinton.
Here is the fantastic poster she has designed:
The Local Cliffs subject I’ve been doing studies of has finally been completed as a work I’m satisfied enough to allow to be matted and framed.
One thing I’ve learned through doing it, is that this small size of 7.5″ x 9″ is very pleasing for me. It is large enough to include a good amount of detailing, and small enough to get finished in a timely way.
And now it is on to getting painting #2 for the show done before our May 1st opening. Thank you for your previous comments which helped me in producing the final result!

Lance, have my best wishes for your Gallery presentation!
Thank you, H. J. I appreciate the support very much. I am enjoying your postings. At this very moment I have so many House Finches at my feeder, I can’t count them!
Looks great! I’m sure your show will be a great success! You should be showing in Vancouver and beyond!
Thank you so much, Russell–you’re always so supportive!
Congratulations on your joint show!
thank you my dear!
Good fortune on your exhibition Lance.
Very kind of you, thank you so much
I wish I lived close enough to attend your gallery show! All the best to you.
Thank you Shelley! I wish you were too!!!
Wow, congratulations on your show…Good luck and all the best to your art, Jenny
Congratulations dear Lance, sounds so nice and exciting… How I wished to be there and visit your exhibition… Good Luck for this. You know you are my favorite painter. Thank you, with my love, nia
It would be such an honour to have you come Nia–thank you for your lovely words.
Lance, the cliffs ended beautifully, didn’t they? I love the composition of them. And the fascinating cliff detail. It seems to be a painting within a painting … and done within such a small space. I never imagined you’d end up where you did. It’s wonderful.
I just love how you support all of us, George–it’s fantastic, and a real boost. This is a difficult subject with exceedingly local appeal–a railroad town which boasts of barren rock. It has taken me a very long time to (a) appreciate this sort of landscape, and (b) find a way to depict it. Thank you again for everything.
Painting and poster look great – best wishes for your show!
Thank you so much, Doreen!
Nice to see the finished piece Lance. Good luck with the next work.
Thank you so much, Graham
wow…stunning….REALLY CATCHES THE EYE
Thank you for that encouraging word, Maenamor!
I hope you have a great show!
Thank you very much, Sandy. I appreciate it.
Looks great! I wish I could attend. Perhaps I will get a chance to see your work within the next few years when I visit BC again.
I truly hope you could come here–that would be very enjoyable all around! Thank you very much, friend and blogger
Lance if you only stayed in Nova Scotia or I lived in BC then I would not be saying, “Oh boy, I wish I could be at the show.” Have fun and schmooze the crowd.
Wonderful–you, too, Grant! I surely wish I could be there for yours.
Eureka!!! Thanks for sharing Nonoy Manga
thank you very much, Nonoy for your comment!
Good luck with your show. I’m sure the two of you will do fantastic. You will have to take some pictures of your opening and post them here.
How very kind. Thank you, Lloyd!

Lynn, that’s very thoughtful and much appreciated. Taking a page from your book, I’ve just planted a variety of blue perennials–your garden is so inspiring
Oh, I hope you post photos of your garden!
Hello, I have nominated you for The Versatile Blogger Award ceramicartdesign.wordpress.com/2012/04/29/the-versatile-blogger-award
Thank you very much for your thoughtfulness, Leonora!
Best wishes for tomorrow!
Oh thank you so much! I just finished the last of three new pieces and then matted and framed them. The cookies and muffins and coffee and all the rest will make their way to the Gallery tomorrow, and then we’ll see. This is a small, no nonsense industrial city, so I doubt we’ll need bouncers.
I appreciate your many kindnesses!
Love the poster and your painting, Lance. Best of luck with the show! Wishing you every success!
Thank you, Diane–and I’ve just been enjoying your tribute to May. What a wonderful painting and musical way of celebrating about the best month of the year!
Thank you, Lance. Yes, May is a lovely month…I love the first greens and the freshness with the dew still heavy in the mornings. We’re having a beautiful day today…hope you are too!
The poster and the piece look fantastic! Hope the opening goes well and my best wishes for the show!
Thank you very much, Lorelie, for your encouragement and support. It was a modest but gratifying opening, and as you can imagine, glad it is over!
All the best!
Thank you very much for being so kind.
Sorry I missed the opening … how was it?
Thank you for asking–I’m way behind in posting and appreciate the nudge!
